On Thursday June 27th, Columbia City Theater had its back room packed with viewers, waiting to watch RAWSTOCK’s alternative film festival that consisted of a wide array of topics from awkward teen angst, animation that takes your imagination to the most creative places, and politically incorrect (but hilarious) films. Each film was about 5-10 minutes long and in between films, there were awards given to some of the directors of the films that attended the event. Seattle’s own Lisa Dank received an award for music video “High Horse”.
The after party music hosted by DJ Chocolate Chuck who had everyone feeling smooth and fresh with all of the music he was playing. Chocolate Chuck is embarking on a new mix tape entitled “Hard as Chuck” which is still in the works. Trust me when I tell you that you need to be on the look out for anything involving Chocolate Chuck and his beat mastering skills. You can also check him out at Vermillion on July 6th for the STONE x Flame free record release party!
C’est la Mort also played an amazing set! The dark melodic vocals of Kim House (who is also the bassist aka cool bonus) danced over the lush etherial sounds in that way that has you questioning if the earth’s gravitational pull has shifted at all, or maybe we’ve slipped quietly into a different dimension. Not all music can do that, but these guys can.
Along with the RAWSTOCK’s event, there happens to be FREE HIP HOP THURSDAYS weekly event at Columbia City Theater’s front Bourbon Bar which is hosted by Bishop I & Uriah Knight with guest performances by Jamil Suleman, Perry Porter solo emcee and one half of hip hop rock duo, Sleep Steady, and djed by Cliff Seabefore. The room was packed with hands in the air and bobbing their heads back and forth, which is exactly what you are looking for when you want a hip hop show.
Make sure to check out future RAWSTOCK events and FREE HIP HOP THURSDAYS at Columbia City Theater!!
